Solutions for our problems

Gertjan, Robert, and Charles from Uganda traveled to Malawi for agroforestry training. Gertjan explains, “We learned a lot about practices we can improve on the farm right now, and at the same time, we learned how to train local families in the future.

On the farm, we have enough land to find mulch, and the pigs in the deep litter system make compost for us. However, it is not easy for local families to replicate this. The training in Malawi offered a solution to these problems. Around the FFF field and in rows in the field, they plant nitrogen-fixing trees and trees that quickly grow a lot of green material for mulch. During the training, we designed a 30-by-30-meter test plot ourselves, which we will plant on the farm and then use as a demonstration for training local farmers.”

Agroforestry in Kameroen

Daniel Ntsam attended the course in November 2023. He learned a great deal, as he himself says: “It dawned on me that God loves His creation just as much as He loves mankind. So we need to take good care of it. When I got home, I immediately set to work preparing the fields and planting.”

“The harvest is not disappointing! In the first year, we still had a lot of corn, but the trees have grown a lot and are now bearing fruit. It’s wonderful to see! I have learned so much and am already thinking about the next expansion.”
